Hello! My name’s Jack (second from the left), I’m 18 years old, and I’m currently studying Film and English Literature at university in Norwich, England. I want to use this blog as a platform to publish reviews of some of the films I’m seeing in the hope that I can inspire as many of you as possible to go and see some of the brilliant films we’re lucky enough to get as audiences, and also to post other general pieces of writing that come to me as I study a huge variety of literature.
I would find it incredibly difficult to pin down a definitive ‘favourite film’, but if I had to pick one at the time of writing, it would have to be La La Land (Damien Chazelle, 2016), simply because it encapsulates everything wonderful about classical Hollywood cinema and places it within a modern-day setting. Because I’m from the UK, it only released in January 2017, so I would have to class it as my favourite of the year so far (and I reckon it’ll take some beating!)
My favourite book – of which I am in no doubt – is Sebastian Faulks’ Birdsong, a book which I completely devoured on my travels across Africa in the summer of 2014. I wouldn’t say I’m usually a very emotional person when it comes to this sort of thing, but the book had me thoroughly hooked, and felt like a gut punch of emotions throughout.
That’ll do for now, I think!
